Why He'll Win: A native son of South Carolina, Colbert tried to get on both the Democratic and Republican primary ballots in the Palmetto State in 2008, only to have his efforts stymied by the powers that be.  Never one to give up, Colbert threw his hat into the ring once more in 2012, this time buoyed by the fact that Americans were thoroughly disgusted with the current field of candidates.  Colbert took full advantage of the new campaign finance laws in the wake of Citizens United, turning his once-lowly political action committee into a SuperPAC, enabling his supporters to raise and spend unlimited amounts of money on his behalf.  In an election when candidates forget the agencies they've promised to cut and invent names of countries when they can't think of any, Colbert's candidacy must be taken seriously, or at least more so than Rick Perry's.

Why He'll Lose: Colbert's aspirations to run for president never seem to extend beyond the borders of South Carolina, so continued success is unlikely, though not impossible in what continues to be an unsettled primary race.
