Rick Santorum

Rick Santorum and MLB umpire Mike Everitt
Full Name: Richard John Santorum
D.O.B.: May 10, 1958
Offices Held: Pennsylvania Senator (1995-2007), Pennsylvania Congressman (1991-1995)
Status: Out of the race
Why He Would've Won: At a time when millions of Americans are unemployed and there is widespread strife at home and abroad, there's one issue conservative Republicans, particularly in Iowa, care about most: gay sex. And there is, perhaps, no Republican in the race more anti-doin' it in the butt than Rick Santorum, the Catholic former Senator with an un-Googleable name. By spending much of his Senate tenure rallying against the awful, dirty things Americans do in the privacy of their own bedrooms, Santorum endeared himself to the cultural conservative base of the GOP.
Why He Would've Lost: That cultural conservative base wasn't enough to secure Santorum a third term, when he was voted out in a landslide in 2006. Although Santorum is well regarded among the party faithful, he has neither the money nor the organization of, say, Mitt Romney, that could allow him to compete through Super Tuesday and beyond. And, again, the whole Google problem.
