Paul Ryan
Full Name: Paul Davis Ryan
D.O.B.: January 29, 1970
Offices Held: Wisconsin Congressman (1999- ), Chairman of the House Budget Committee (2010- )
Vying For: The vice presidency
Why He'll Win: The architect of the so-called "Path to Prosperity," Congressman Ryan is a fiscal hawk, swooping down to peck out the eyes of government waste, while regurgitating the savings into the mouths of individuals and corporations in the form of tax breaks. Most certainly the fittest man in Wisconsin, Ryan is a self-proclaimed workout junkie, ensuring he'll have the energy he needs to take on his sparring partner in this election, Vice President Joe Biden, who still has some fight left in him even as he slips further into the depths of senility.
Why He'll Lose: Though Paul Ryan talks a lot about bringing down the deficit, his record during the Bush years of voting for the Bush Tax Cuts, two wars, TARP, and a prescription drug entitlement program - all of which were not paid for - casts doubt on Ryan's credibility as a fiscal conservative. Ryan also has a tendency to blame Obama for things that happened under Bush (like the closure of a Janesville GM plant) or for the same course of action he says he would take (like cutting billions of dollars from Medicare).
