Mitt Romney
Full Name: Willard Mitt Romney
D.O.B.: March 12, 1947
Offices Held: Governor of Massachusetts (2003-2007)
Why He’ll Win: Romney is easily the most “presidential” candidate running for president in the GOP this year; his proud head of hair and strong jawline are the envy of nightly newscasters and game show hosts, alike. Perhaps that's why a Mormon, sometimes-centrist, former one-term governor of liberal Massachusetts even has a shot at the Republican nomination. As for why he's the odds-on favorite, one need look no further than his competition in the race, who make Romney look almost appealing. Then, of course, there are Romney's millions of dollars and his equally rich Wall Street donors, who happily ditched Obama to support one of their own.
Why He’ll Lose: Though Romney unquestionably has the biggest campaign war chest on the Republican side, McCain beat Romney and his millions of dollars in ’08 with only the money he carried in his shoe. And as much as Romney's supporters like to insist that his wealth doesn't matter, 2012 is not a good year to be part of the 1%, especially when you make $10,000 bets in debates, remind voters that corporations are people, and express a lack of concern for the very poor. Also, the Mormon thing.
Fun Fact: Romney was the voice of the Arby’s Oven Mitt in an early-2000’s ad campaign (see Fig. 1).
