What follows is a transcribed block of Obama's tech support call:
TECH SUPPORT: You mean the computer?
OBAMA: Right, the Internet.
TECH SUPPORT: But the computer is on.
OBAMA: I guess. I go to my home screen and there's nothing there.
TECH SUPPORT: There's nothing on your desktop?
OBAMA: It just says "about: blank."
TECH SUPPORT: That's your Internet browser window.
OBAMA: Right, it won't turn on.
TECH SUPPORT: Have you tried navigating to another page?
After 30 minutes, and with the assistance of his wife and daughters, Mr. Obama was finally able to designate a new homepage, which resolved the problem. Obama's critics, however, are using the incident to hit him for being out of touch.
"That call was really bad, even for this president," said Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL). "He sounded like my parents when they try to use a computer, especially that bit where he can't differentiate between a computer and the Internet. I don't see how this won't hurt him with young voters."
Speaking at a campaign event in Youngstown, Ohio on Friday, presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney (R-MA) also blasted the president's actions.
"So here we have an instance where President Obama had a problem, so he had to call India to get an answer. How does that help our economy?" asked Romney. "President Obama is so out of touch, he doesn't realize that Americans don't look to fix things - they buy new things. Like most of you, I gladly would've ponied up the $10,000 for a new computer, even if I had to borrow from my wife's horse's dancing lesson fund to pay for it."
Democratic pollster Peter Hart predicts the leaked phone call could have disastrous consequences for Obama's re-election prospects.
"Obama's call to tech support is the modern equivalent of yelling at the neighbor kids to get off your lawn or tying up the checkout line at the grocery store to dispute the price of a single plum. The whole thing just makes him seem really, really old," said Hart. "Who can't mark a homepage? Obama would have to join One Direction or date Kim Kardashian to not seem so fucking old. At this point, those might be the only options left open to him."
