WASHINGTON, DC - The 12 members of the bipartisan 'Super Congress' - tasked with cutting billions of dollars from the federal deficit - met in the nation's capital Wednesday to identify ways in which they could bring negotiations to a griding halt, once again leaving America's economy teetering on the edge of oblivion.
"We're well aware that there are plenty of Americans who see us as a do-nothing Congress," admitted Rep. Fred Upton, a Michigan Republican and Super Congress member.  "But in reality, we are working every day to find ways to blow up even the most minor disagreements into make or break issues which could turn this country into a third-rate banana republic overnight if left unresolved."
The past year has seen three major legislative battles - fights over extending unemployment benefits, the federal budget, and the nation's debt ceiling - escalate into rigid standoffs between Republicans and Democrats that threatened to adversely effect millions of Americans and, at times, the entire country.
